Adults and youngsters that came to the festival had the opportunity to meet researchers, talk to them, and learn about the impact of scientific research on people&#8217;s everyday lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every year, the Night features numerous activities, such as hands-on experiments, science shows, learning activities for children, science quizzes, games, or competitions with the researchers. They all give rise to the public awareness of the positive role of research in society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/research\/mariecurieactions\/actions\/european-researchers-night_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The European Researchers&#8217; Night<\/a> takes place all over Europe for ten years now. Each year, all researchers really gave their best to amaze youngsters, to tackle their mind, but one thing stood out above all \u2013 the fact that kids love chemistry!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You don&#8217;t have to believe me, see for yourself:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"681\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pmf.ni.ac.rs\/chemianaissensis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/BSB-Studio-08-1024x681.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-782\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.pmf.ni.ac.rs\/chemianaissensis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/BSB-Studio-08-1024x681.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.pmf.ni.ac.rs\/chemianaissensis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/BSB-Studio-08-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.pmf.ni.ac.rs\/chemianaissensis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/BSB-Studio-08-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.pmf.ni.ac.rs\/chemianaissensis\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/BSB-Studio-08-1320x878.jpg 1320w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This week, professors from our department gave several lectures\u2014at the local <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rcnis.edu.rs\/2013-08-28-08-09-32\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Science Club<\/a>\u2014on attractive topics such as The Periodic Table \u2013 Past, Present, and Future, The Magical World of Herbs, As a Detective, From Cleopatra to Shakespeare \u2013 The History of Poisoning, Analytical Chemistry in Investigating the Cultural Heritage Material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the meantime, researchers\u2014chemists\u2014were doing some exciting experiments on their stand, placed at the Officers Club in Ni\u0161. They were extremely focused on winning over the surrounding youngsters and evoke wonder and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scientificamerican.com\/article\/how-awe-shapes-views-of-science\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">awe towards science<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Voice of Researchers<\/strong><br><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I asked several researchers to share their impressions of the 10th Night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe number of visitors has notably increased since the last year, which is a good thing,\u201d said Nena Velinov, a researcher at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmf.ni.ac.rs\/chemianaissensis\/wp-content\/uploads\/filebase\/v1n12018\/Chair-of-Applied-and-Environmental-Chemistry.pdf\">Chair of Applied and Environmental Chemistry<\/a>, \u201cattractive settings from various fields were alluring to people of all ages because they didn\u2019t demand previous expert knowledge to understand how they work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGenie in a bottle, the volcano, paper coloring and a few more experiments with colored indicators were very popular among the youngest visitors,\u201d added Sonja Jankovi\u0107, a Ph.D. student at our department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marija Dimitrijevi\u0107, a researcher at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmf.ni.ac.rs\/chemianaissensis\/wp-content\/uploads\/filebase\/v1n12018\/Chair-of-Analytical-Chemistry.pdf\">Chair of Analytical and Physical Chemistry<\/a>, told us that she&#8217;s glad that interest in science grows rapidly every year. \u201cMy most favorite\u2014and frankly most curious\u2014visitors are children. They blinklessly followed every move of mine while I was dipping a banana in a dish filled with liquid nitrogen and then tried to hammer a nail with the frozen banana,\u201d she said, \u201cGirls would be amazed every time I gave them a frozen flower, so eventually they gave me a nickname Elsa, a heroine from their favorite cartoon movie \u2013 Frozen.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A researcher at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pmf.ni.ac.rs\/chemianaissensis\/wp-content\/uploads\/filebase\/v1n12018\/Chair-for-Organic-Chemistry-and-Biochemistry.pdf\">Chair of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry<\/a>, Sne\u017eana Jovanovi\u0107 tried to sound more poetic:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>This Night has a great power, a superpower! The roles have been replaced. Adults became children and children grew up.
