Rastko Marković was born on September 5, 1997, in Novi Sad, Serbia. He completed his elementary education at Žarko Zrenjanin Primary School and graduated from Isidora Sekulić Gymnasium in his hometown. In 2016, he enrolled in undergraduate studies at the Department of Geography, Tourism and Hotel Management, Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad. He graduated within the regular time frame with an average grade of 9.71. Continuing his education, he successfully completed his master’s studies in July with a perfect GPA of 10.00. In the 2021/22 academic year, he enrolled in PhD studies in Geosciences at the same faculty, which he completed in October 2025. Since March 1, 2022, he has been employed as a teaching assistant at the Department of Geography and Tourism, Faculty of Sciences, University of Niš.
During his studies, Rastko was highly active in extracurricular activities. He was a member of the board of the Branislav Bukurov Association of Young Researchers during the 2018/19 academic year, and the following year he was elected president. In this role, he gained extensive organizational skills and experience in coordinating numerous scientific field expeditions. Rastko is also engaged in environmental activism. He organized 15 large-scale waste removal actions on Fruška Gora and participated in many other similar initiatives. In addition to waste removal, he has been actively involved in promoting waste recycling practices. He also worked at the Eco Camp Fruška Gora in Stražilovo and at the café Gorski Smeško in Popovica, where he gained valuable practical experience in ecotourism.
He participated in two training programs: “The Belt and Road” in Xi’an, China, and the “Workshop on Frontiers in Earth and Planetary Sciences” in Beijing, China, where he gained significant knowledge in paleoclimate reconstruction. At the River Collective camp on the Soča River, he acquired extensive insights into the environmental impacts of hydroelectric infrastructure and subsequently became involved in efforts to prevent the construction of small derivation hydropower plants on Stara Planina. He has participated in numerous scientific conferences and field research campaigns. At the international conference US Loess Fest held in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA, in September 2016, he received the award for the best student presentation.
Rastko Marković is the author or co-author of more than 35 scientific papers published in journals with an impact factor.
