Ivan Filipović is Full Professor at Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics, University of Niš. He defended his PhD (1997) in the field of Cartography at the Faculty of Geography in Belgrade. He took an active part in the formation of the Department of Geography at the Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics, University of Niš since being the first full-time employee of the Department. For 12 years (from 2002 to 2014), he was in charge of as the Head of the Department of Geography. After that, I was elected to the position of Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Science in Niš. During the professorship, he was a lecturer in Cartography, Mathematical Geography, Thematic Mapping and Geographic Information Systems. In addition, he held lectures in Pedology, Meteorology with Climatology, Methodology of scientific research and Scientific methods in cartography. In addition to his home faculty, he has also held lectures at the Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics at Kosovska Mitrovica and as the on-call lecturer of the Topography at the Academy of Criminalistic and Police Studies in Belgrade. He is currently performing the function of Acting Dean at the Faculty of Agriculture in Kruševac, University of Niš. He is a member of the scientific-expert council for natural-mathematical sciences and the scientific-expert council for technical-technological sciences, as well as a member of the Senate of the University of Niš. He was selected as a reviewer for the Geosciences area at the Commission for Accreditation and Quality Assurance (CAQA) of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, a member of the Commission for the certification of diplomas at the same ministry, etc. He is an author of about 60 scientific papers that have been published in leading international and national journals. He is the author of the textbook “Fundamentals of Cartography with Topography” and also the author of three monographs in Serbian scientific journals and one scientific monograph published in the USA. He was a member of the 1991-1999 War Veterans Association in which he participated as a Reserve officer of the Serbian Armed Forces. He is married and a father of two.
